Wanton mee 雲呑麺

I don’t miss much from Singapore, wanton mee is one of those. This recipe is as close enough to what I remember having as a kid.

Charsiew

Ingredients

Portions are relative to each other

Prep the meat

Roast

  1. remove meat from ziplock and place on a grill
    • wipe away excess sauces but don’t toss it
  2. heat oven to 200 deg C, roast meat for 15 minutes
  3. turn the meat over, brush the sauce onto it and roast for another 10 minutes
  4. prepare some honey water (2 honey, 1 water)
  5. brush honey water onto meat, then roast for another 5 minutes
  6. remove from oven and let rest for 15 minutes

sauce for Wanton noodles

I used whatever ingredients I had, recipes elsewhere differs a bit. Volume is a guide as I don’t use measuring spoons. I just pour the sauces straight from the bottle into the pan and eyeballed it.

Ingredients

Prepare the Garlic Oil

  1. chop the garlic into small itty bitty pieces
  2. heat the olive oil
  3. toss in the garlic and fry till brown
  4. store the entire thing in a bowl or whatever

The sauce

  1. fry mushrooms till liquid comes out, then salt the mushrooms
    • I re-used the fry pan from above without cleaning it, so there’s some oil but I usually fry mushrooms without oil
  2. add Garlic Oil and stir fry till mushrooms are coated in oil
  3. add soy sauces and oyster sauce and water
  4. bring to a boil, then put a lid and let it simmer till nice and thick
  5. add corn starch to thicken

Wait, where’s the wanton?

Too much effort. I got it from the supermarket.
